Mark Zuckerberg, the 23-year-old founder and chief executive of Facebook, launched the phenomenally successful social-networking site while he was a sophomore at Harvard. Facebook's forerunner was the somewhat more risqué Facemash, a Harvard version of Hot or Not. Facemash paired random pictures of Harvard undergraduates and invited users to vote on who was more attractive. Setting up Facemash required Zuckerberg to hack into protected areas of Harvard's computer network so he could copy and incorporate dormitory ID images from Harvard's Kirkland, Eliot, and Lowell houses. In response, Harvard's disciplinary administrative board placed Zuckerberg on academic probation.

Tips For Finding An Online School

Finding an online school or program to meet your degree requirements can be an overwhelming process. But don't despair. The hard part of choosing to go back to school to finish your degree or learn a new skill is over. Now you can focus on finding the online program that meets your needs.

One of the most popular ways to research and online program is to leverage the internet. If you are looking for a specific type of program, then simply type the program name with the word "online" in front of it. This will return individual programs as well as directories that list online programs by discipline.

Once you have decided on the type of program and developed a short list of possibilities, create an evaluation list. An evaluation list is essentially a list of criteria you will measure each school against. This list may include information such as how much the program should cost, what type of career resources they offer, how many credits they require to complete your degree and so on.

Make sure that you are organized when evaluating your match with potential institutions or online learning programs. A great way to do this easily is by creating a spreadsheet and ranking each school by degree of match. Narrow you list to just a few opportunities and then contact each school. Ask questions and to get a feel for the people behind the program you will be attending.

If you need help with your application you can work with the college to answer your questions. Online schools and programs are always looking for the right students for their college. As you move through the application process continue to ask more questions and complete your application before submission.

Going to school online isn't for everyone. But if you have already decided that online learning is in your future, then start researching online schools and narrow you list to those that meet your needs.
